Roadmap

By public transport

We want to warn you: reaching Klimax by means of the public transport is not an easy job to do, but with the information below you will manage!
For making things even more complex, the climbing hall with is part of the sport centre "De Vrijhals", is located in a small town called Breendonk, a municipal district of Puurs. So, in case you get lost, ask for Breendonk, not for Puurs!

::: Language :::
Remember that Belgium is a three-language speaking country (Dutch, French and German). Most people also speak English. But don't try to speak German, as only few people will understand you. South of Brussels indications will be in French, in the capital Brussels you will find indications in Dutch and in French, and in Puurs you will only find Dutch signs.

::: Travel itineraries :::
We have choosen the easiest travel itineraries for you, starting from the major arrival locations. Major airplane companies land in Brussels National Airport in Zaventem. People flying with Ryanair will arrive in Brussels South Charleroi Airport. This is a city about 45 km southwest of Brussels (so, don't confuse it with the train station Brussels South, which is located in the capital itself !). Direct bus and train connections are available. For more information, consult their website. Thalys, Eurostar and TGV travellers will arrive in Brussels South (Zuid, Midi) Train Station (in Brussels).

The train station in Brussels National Airport is located in the basement (level -1) of the terminal building itself. From here you can reach Breendonk by taking the train to Mechelen by Brussels North.
You can get to Klimax from Mechelen by taking:

  • Bus 289 to Breendonk
  • Train to Willebroek
These travel schedules are also useful for people arriving by TGV, Eurostar or Thalys at Brussels South (Midi, Zuid). Trains with destination Antwerpen Centraal (Anvers Central) leave in Brussels South about 10 minutes earlier than in Brussels North (Nord, Noord). Get off in Mechelen (Malines) and change for the train with destination Willebroek, or take the bus from Mechelen to Breendonk. Travel prices are similar.

Travellers from The Netherlands need to take a train to Mechelen (line Antwerpen-Brussel), and change for the train with destination Willebroek, or take the bus from Mechelen to Breendonk.
